SCALE INTERNATIONAL INITIATIVE TO SUPPORT FOREIGNERS IN BRAZIL

The Scale International, through its representative, Rui Fonseca e Castro, was on Thursday - 22/11/2012 - present in ALERJ - Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro - as part of several meetings, which had as purpose of designing support mechanisms for foreigners in Brazil, especially in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

This initiative comes within the present context of Brazil as one of the main destination of migration flows worldwide, revealing itself not only as a staging ground of job opportunities for skilled labor but also as a humanitarian refuge for foreign populations whose countries were devastated, particularly by natural catastrophes, wars, famine or disease.

Indeed, since 2009, has been regularized, on average the permanence of almost 60,000 foreigners per year, totaling until September this year, 224,453 foreigners with their stay regularized. From this universe, 84 985 foreigners settled in the State of Rio de Janeiro.

In this statistic are not counted the numbers regarding regularization of citizens of Mercosur countries nor, of course, referring to foreigners staying illegally, which is estimated to be significantly higher.
